CLONING AND DUPLICATE SOULS

In March, 1997, somebody asked question the following question in a Hindu group.  I gave my views which are thought-provoking, and shed new light on our ancient puranas and sciences.

Question by Vishal(vishal@singnet.com.sg)

"Creating a clone is creating a new life.....?"

JayBee Answered:

Creating a clone is NOT creating a new life.

By means of taking a living cell and cloning it, you can duplicate the physical structure of the organism, but you do not create a new soul or life.

I will give a few examples...

The King Nimi was an ancestor of Janaka Maharaja, the father of Seetha. He incured the wrath of his Preceptor- the Rishi Vasishta. Vasishta cursed Nimi so that Nimi left his physical body.  The body was embalmed with aromatic oils, herbs, and resins by the ministers and others.

Nimi did not leave behind any successor.  They wanted to create a successor to Nimi in his original form.  So the Rishis took the body and by making use of a fire-kindling rod, churned the thigh of Nimi's dead body. From the process (whatever it could have been), the Rishis created a totally new person.  He is considered as the son and successor to Nimi . He is known as King Janaka I. He is the ancestral fore-father of Janaki@Sita.

The dynasty came to be known as the Videha Dynasty. Videha means 'Without Body'.  Although the cells from the tissue of the thigh of Nimi were used, we have two totally different persons here - Nimi and Janaka.... with two different souls!

There is another story.

Manmatha tries to entice Siva with his Kaama Paana arrows of love and lust. Siva just opens his third eye and burns Manmatha to ashes.  One of the Bhuuta leaders of Siva, takes pity upon Manmatha. He gathers up the ashes of Manmatha and heaps them up into a humanoid figure and beseeches Siva to raise it to life.  Siva sprinkles a few drops of the life-giving Amrutha from his Jata locks of hair, on to the ash figurine. It comes to life.

But....

It is not Manmatha. It is a fierce, dangerous, and powerful Asura - Bandaasura. He finally is destroyed by Sri Lalitha Maha Thripura Sundhari.  Then She causes Siva to restore Manmatha. Siva does so and Manmatha appears in an invisible form. But he is visible only to his consort, Rathi Devi.

SrI LalithA SahasranAma addresses Ambikai as -

This story can be gleaned from SrI LalithA SahasranAma and SrI LalithOpAgyAnam.

Bandaasura was created from the ashes of Manmatha.

But both were two different beings, possessing two different souls.

There is a fine novel called "The Boys from Brazil".

Dr.Josef Mengele, the personal physician to Adolf Hitler takes a few strands of hair and some blood from Hitler and escapes to Brazil. He wants to create many Hitlers in order to capture the whole world. So he succeeds in cloning 32 human babies from the tissues of Hitler.

There is only one snag.

The 32 Boys from Brazil are the exact replicas of Hitler.
But they are not miniature Hitlers. They have personalities of their own. It was only the physical body that was duplicated and not the soul of Adolf Hitler!

According to most philosophies of Hinduism, life or soul cannot be created.

Siva Maheshwara is the Lord of Ajnaana, Jnaana, and Vijnaana. He alone knows the answers and He alone knows what He is doing.
